Our History

Our Mission at Jan's Hallmark Gold Crown is to EXCEED Each Customer's Expectations by Providing Superior Products and Services.

Since 1983 we've held fast to Our Mission. Our commitment to people, product and the shopping experience has resulted in continuous recognition from

Hallmark Cards of Kansas City as one of the Very Best Hallmark Retailers in the World.

With this recognition comes responsibility. The responsibility to do it right, not just the first time but every time.

“When You Care Enough To Send The Very Best” is not just a slogan, it's the guiding light, the very essence of who we are, what we do, and why we do it.

I hope you have an opportunity to visit our “clicks” (web page) and “bricks” (shops) often. I promise you “good stuff”, imagine what's in store.

Thank you for your business, we do appreciate it!

Don L. Tschannen Jr., President

Our History

Jan's Hallmark First Store opened October 17, 1983 in Granite City.

The second Jan's Hallmark was opened in Belleville in 1988 at Westfield Plaza which later moved to Country Club Plaza.

Jan's Hallmark opened in Swansea in 1989 at Schnucks Plaza

A fourth Store opened in Cahokia in 1994 which was later relocated to O'Fallon on Highway 50.

1995 brought three more stores to the Jan's Family. Collinsville and Edwardsville locations were purchase from the Cards Plus Chain and later in the year the O'Fallon store opened in Southview plaza.

Columbia was added to the growing family in 1999. It was originally Sandy's Hallmark.

No need to change the Sign in Ballwin. The Jan's Hallmark on Manchaster Road was purchased in 2000.

2004 was a growing year again. With the addition of The Pyramid in Belleville at Carlyle Plaza and the new construction of the Shiloh store in Green Mount Crossings brought the family to 11.

2006 brought on the new construction of Woodriver. A new strip center was built and Jan's Hallmark moved into the corner of the shopping center.

The original Location in Granite City moved from Crossroads plaza to the New Nameoki Commons shopping center across the parking lot.

Another change was happening in August of 2007. The Jan's Hallmark in Carlyle Plaza was relocated to the Green Mount Commons Center at the East end of Belleville.

June 2008 brought the closing of store #4 in O'Fallon on Highway 50, which later relocated to the Green Mount Commons in Belleville.

February 15 our second location we opened, closed its doors for good at Country Club Plaza which was relocated from Westfield Plaza. We were sad to see it go, but the staff relocated to other stores with the majority moving to the location down the road at Green Mount Commons.

The beginning of 2012 brought lots of heartache and tears. First our Woodriver location closed its doors after Christmas 2011. Next after Valentines Day 2012 we had to shut the doors on the Belleville #10 location.

Later in 2012 we started updating a few of the store layouts. Granite City, Swansea and Edwardsville all went through extensive layout changes.

We also partnered with Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate brand Chocolates and beguan carrying their line of Chocolates.

The beginning of 2013 brought some some changes. We had to close our Ofallon downtown location. Hopefully we will see all of our guests visit us and the employees at our Shiloh location.

The Collinsville location was moved "down the hill" to the Collinsville Crossing Center. We expanded the store to close to 7000 sqft and brought in Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Branded bulk Candy.

It was a staple since 1989 but in May of 2014 we turned off the lights at our Swansea location. With two other stores so close in Belleville and Shiloh we hope our loyal customers will find us at one of those locations.

A mall? Yes Jan's Hallmark opened a location in a mall! Jan's Hallmark at Alton Square Mall opened in October of 2017. Alton lost the previous Hallmark location so we decided to bring Jan's to Alton!

The traffic just was not enough at the Collinsville crossing location and in the beginning of 2018 we closed the location hoping our loyal Jan's customers will visit us in Edwardsville, Shiloh, Granite or any of the other locations.

After a  little delay in Jan's happenings, we went and opened a store at the Bogey Hills center in St. Charles for our 2nd store in Missouri.  Right after opening our St. Charles store, we stayed in Missouri and did an amazing transformation to our Ballwin location making it look new again

We had clear vision in the beginning of 2020 but in March we had to temporarily close all of our locations along with most of the countries small businesses due to the outbreak of Covid-19.  June 1st we were able to reopen all of our locations but decided to leave the lights off in our Granite city store.   It was the end of an era, closing our first ever location after 37 years.

While we were reopening our stores from the Covid-19 pandemic, a great opportunity presented itself in Cottleville, Mo!  We acquired Christine's Hallmark from a great group of owners and brought our Jan's family of stores back up to 8 in July of 2020.

While remodeling our Cottleville location in late August of 2020, we decided to take on another challenge.  Jan's acquired 3 Hallmark Corporate stores in Missouri.  September of 2020 brought the Jan's family of stores to 11 with the additions of Chesterfield, West County Center in Des Peres and Mid Rivers Mall in St. Peters

Hello Fenton.  Searching for a new market to expand to, we looked south of the city and Fenton Missouri fit the criteria!  A long delay before opening for business on March 4th marked our store count to 12 with a beautiful new store.

Jan's decided to go and enjoy the south purchasing a great store in Huntsville, Alabama from a wonderful family.  Our Jan's  family of stores grew to 13 May of 2022.

More to come.......
